President's Welcome

Welcome to the official website of Sigma Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated! The great sisterhood of Alpha Kappa Alpha has been in existence for over a century and still remains a pillar in the community.

“Service to all mankind” is the motto that Alpha Kappa Alpha members live by.  We are proud of our achievements in the community and look forward to continuing with our most recently launched Emerging Young Leaders Mentoring Program in partnership with Delaware Physicians Care, Inc., an Aetna Company.  Through this program, we encourage and motivate young ladies ages nine through eleven by offering life skills support, promoting academic achievement, discussing career planning, participating in civic engagement and supporting healthy living choices.  We are also excited about the recent formation Diamond State Pearls, Inc., the charitable arm of Sigma Zeta Omega Chapter and look forward to working with them to achieve their goals in the community.

We look forward to continuing our partnerships with the City of Newark, DuPont, the City of Wilmington and forging other partnerships in New Castle County. Some of our current program activities include volunteering and partnerships with the Ronald McDonald House, Newark Senior Center, Christiana Care, Neighborhood House of Delaware, Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Beautiful Gate Outreach Center and the Food Bank of Delaware.  The AKAette Scholarship Program is our signature mentoring program which motivates young ladies of color in the New Castle County to continue their educational, personal and cultural growth as they prepare for college.  Our programs help to address various problems in our community and society as a whole. To this end, we remain focused on our international program initiatives: Emerging Young Leaders, Health, Global Poverty, Economic Security, Social Justice and Human Rights and Internal Leadership Training for External Service. 

It is my pleasure to lead this chapter as we continue to make a difference in Newark, Delaware and the surrounding communities after more than 21 years of service. Thank you for visiting our space on the web.
